Pawan Kumar is a filmmaker from Bangalore and the founder of Home Talkies and Audience Films.

He started off his career as an actor for the stage in 2000 and since then sought to develop skills in writing and direction. Having satisfied his time in theatre he made the transition to Film in 2006.

In 2009, Pawan wrote his first feature film, for which he won a State award. In 2011, he directed his first feature film, Lifeu Ishtene, a huge commercial success.

In the same year, he also developed Home Talkies,an online portal hosting many popular Kannada films, which are being enjoyed by a worldwide audience. This has created an international market for the movies made in Kannada and has given the producers and the production houses a new revenue generating model, opening up a new demographic for the filmmakers.

On the development of Audience Films: 'I put up on my blog that I had written a movie script titled LUCIA, and that I was looking for investors. I gave the audience the option to put in little chunks of money in the project, the idea was to make a good movie which was purely an artist's work and was free of market pressures. I had set a target amount of 50lakh and had given myself a deadline of 100 days to raise this fund. This was called as Project Lucia. I made good use of internet, I published online articles, and promoted this on social networking sites. The news spread like wild fire. People started sharing links about Project Lucia on their facebook and other social networking sites. And surprisingly I was able to raise 51lakh in just 27 days. Each of the audiences put in little chunks of money, and it collectively became a huge fund. As an artist this gave me the freedom to make my film without any compromises. This whole venture was worked out under the banner – Audience Films.

The whole concept of Audience films is about networking. We have to build extensive database of people who believe in our vision. Hence meeting the audience and film makers becomes an important aspect of this process. Today we are concentrating on Kannada films, but we could in the future expand and make this model and our database available for filmmakers of any other language.'
