Makeda Coaston

Makeda is a cultural strategist, change agent and writer committed to empowering and enabling creative and cultural practises that are diverse, inclusive and dynamic.

A strong champion for the arts and heritage sectors, with over 25 years experience in project management, programming, capacity building and advocacy, driven by partnership building and cultural mediation.

As Senior Cultural Strategy Officer for the Greater London Authority, Makeda designed and delivered the award-winning,‘Mayor’s Commission on African and Asian Heritage’ and it’s seminal publications, ‘Delivering Shared Heritage’ and ‘Embedding Shared Heritage’. As Chief Executive for the Minorities Arts Advisory Service, she served as the national advocate for equal opportunities and inclusion.

As an independent consultant, Makeda works with voluntary organisations, the public sector and government to advance cultural equity and visionary creative expression.As a journalist and media researcher andpresenter, she focuses on African diaspora culture and heritage.
