Graduated in Photography, participated in study groups on critical image and street photography. In 2008, during artist residency in Cuba, wrote an essay about post-revolutional photography. In 2010, produced a series of photographic essays about imigration and border culture while living in Mexico. In 2014, attended exhibition design and scenography classes at the Visual Arts School Parque Lage (RJ) and São Paulo School, where developed and co-authored the urban intervention project VIRoRIO. In June 2015, VIRoRIO was displayed at the 13th Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space. Never abandoning photography and video, have always had interest on exploring new possibilities with images and its surroundings.
Why did you sign up for CityMix São Paulo and the creative process with British Council and Marshmallow Laser Feast?
In recent years I decided to expand my area of expertise. I’ve been working only with photography and it was time to go further. After VIRoRIO project, I felt the urge to work with the city, it’s one of the largest venues we have. Actions within the city can reframe the relationship with the space we occupy. We should look at the city and occupy it not only as a means of circulation. The automaticity with which we walk in the streets makes the city invisible.
It is an opportunity for learning and exchanging. São Paulo is claiming for changes and cultural actions like this one, modifying its landscape, have the power to awaken a numb sensation in its citizens.
Describe how you can contribute to the creative process
I know the city of Sao Paulo and being a photographer has always required a careful look at what surrounds me. Being challenged to present your own city, to someone completely unknown to it, evokes sensibility to these old-new perspectives. Sharing points of view, when working in a group, is always enriching for projects like this to gain from different perspectives.
