(Closed) Request for Proposal Innovation for Culture Advisor

We're inviting expressions of interest from UK creative and cultural industry professionals to join our programme steering team for a new public innovation programme in Mexico, in partnership with Ministry of Culture Jalisco.

The British Council invites expressions of interest from UK creative and cultural industries experts to join the Innovation for Culture steering group. The steering group, formed of UK and Mexico experts, will have an integral role guiding the programme and its team and sharing their insight to audiences in Mexico.

The Programme

In partnership with the Ministry of Culture Jalisco, Innovation for Culture is a public innovation programme for Jalisco’s new cultural policies with the specific aim to shape new cultural policy for the state of Jalisco. The vision is to create and publish a series of policy recommendations for the development of the post Covid-19 cultural sector in Jalisco through a community led process.

The Innovation for Culture programme will run from October 2020 to May 2021 and will be co-designed by experts in both the UK and Mexico. Currently recruiting for UK organisations to lead the programme, more information available here.

About Jalisco

Located in the western coast of Mexico, Jalisco is one of the 32 states that comprise the Mexican federation. With a population of 7.5 million people, Jalisco is the third largest state in terms of population size, commercial and cultural activities. Guadalajara, it’s capital, is the second largest city and one of the most impactful forces of economic development of the country. Jalisco is pioneering avant-garde creative industries through public and private investment in digital development. It has a very solid animation and digital sector, and in 2017, Guadalajara was designated a Creative City of Media Arts by UNESCO.

The Role

The primary focus of the advisor role will be to provide recommendations and guidance based on professional experience in order to evaluate objectives, implementation and progress of the overall programme. The advisor will join a series of programme development session with Jalisco and British Council, join regular programme meetings and participate in the programme evaluation.

On top of programme advisory the UK expert is invited to (remotely) participate in public facing activities including Jalisco’s Creative and Cultural Congress October 2020.

British Council and Ministry of Culture are offering the expert up to £4,900 (VAT included). Contract will be between September 2020 and March 2021.
