(closed) Apply for creative placemaking hackathon in Thailand

We're seeking four creative hub leaders from the UK to connect and collaborate with hub leaders in Thailand in tackling challenges of the Nang Loeng neighbourhood. The event will take place on 16-20 March 2020.

Urban Studies Lab

We are collaborating with Urban Studies Lab (USL) and Ford Resource and Engagement Center (FREC) on the first ever Social Innovation Hackathon: Creative Placemaking project in the Nang Loeng district in Bangkok.

The hackathom aims to provide a platform for collaboration and exchanges between UK and Thai creative hubs to promote the role of creative hubs in the development of liveable cities and social innovation.

We are seeking four creative hub leaders from the UK to join four creative hubs in Thailand in tackling the challenges of Nang Loeng neighbourhood through a hackathon.

Nang Loeng is located next to Rattanakosin Island, arguably the birthplace of Bangkok and the epicentre from which development radiated out in the early years of the city.

The presence of Nang Loeng Market, Sala Chaloem Thani stand-alone movie theatre, old shophouses, indicate a once illustrious and colourful past.

Once a city with a thriving craft and publishing trade, many businesses are struggling to stay afloat and local infrastructure is not prepared for its aging community, nor able to cater for the young or support new spaces for activities.

Selected applicants will be UK creative hubs working in the following areas:

  • Technology
  • Making, design and crafts
  • Social innovation and entrepreneurship
  • Culture and heritage
  • Enviroment and tourism
  • Art in public spaces
  • Performing and visual arts
  • Strong connection and experience working with local communities.

British Council Thailand will cover costs of travel, accommodation and per diem of four UK hub leaders for the duration of the event in Thailand.
