(Closed) OPEN CALL: Tech4Culture 2019

We are looking for a UK creative agency to partner with the British Council and the Governorship of Burdur to develop a user-centred, participatory and socially inclusive digital engagement opportunity.

Tech4Culture fosters innovation in the digital space by connecting creative and technology organisations from Turkey and the UK. The programme offers UK organisations access to international cultural experiences, networks and markets, and a safe space in which to experiment with technologies and new ways of working.

Building on the first edition of Tech4Culture, the programme will connect a UK creative agency with a cultural institution from Turkey to develop a user-centred, participatory and socially inclusive digital engagement opportunity.

Content creation can help to drive technical innovations, pushing the possibilities of the software and hardware. Connecting tech and culture is crucial to the future of both sectors.  Digital technologies are dependent on great creative content to make a lasting impact and through partnering with the creative and cultural organisations, the tech sector can access creative minds and creative content with which to innovate.

The Governorship of Burdur

Burdur is located in the southwestern part of the Mediterranean on the shores of the Lakes Region. It is on the historical and cultural passageways that connect the Mediterranean coastal region and the inner parts of Anatolia. It has various natural and cultural tourism resources as well as its folklore, culture, social life and economy including the ancient cities Sagalassos and Kibyra, which are both on the UNESCO World Heritage Site tentative list and natural assets such as Lake Salda and Insuyu Cave.

Their mission is to protect, develop and transfer to the next generations, the historical, cultural and natural heritage of Burdur. This includes promoting and marketing tourism , and to coordinate activities in the field of culture and tourism by collaborating with other .

While the diversity and surplus of cultural assets in Burdur are among opportunities for The Governorship of Burdur, the problems faced by the institution are; not being able to reach a wide range of audience, and audience interaction beyond their website and their physical space.

The Governorship of Burdur would like to develop a user-centred, participatory and socially inclusive digital engagement opportunity to attract and engage with a wide variety of audiences. We are inviting a UK agency to collaborate with the Governorship of Burdur to design, develop and produce an innovative digital response to their challenge.

The selected creative agency will receive:

  • A budget of up to £25k 
  • Travel and accommodation
  • Support from the British Councils teams (UK and Turkey)

The UK agency will be invited to Turkey as part of a scoping trip, to meet with the Governorship of Burdur and British Council Turkey in March or April 2019.

Key assessment criteria

We will assess proposals on the following criteria:

Viability - What is the proposed solution? Will the solution enable Burdur to reach the widest possible audience?

Positive Impact - What is the benefit to audiences? Is this meaningful and valuable for people? 

Scalability - What is the scalability of the proposed solution? How many people will be engaged or benefit? 

Sustainability - Is there a plan for embedded the proposed solution?
