The European Creative Hubs Forum is an ambitious programme led by the British Council, bringing over 200 hub managers together in Lisbon from 13-15th January 2015.
First of all, let us explain what we mean by our definition of the word hub; a hub is a place (physical or virtual) that brings creative people together. This can be interpreted in a variety of different models, each playing their own part in the development of our economy today, by connecting and developing the opportunities for a community of creatives.
The 3-day forum is a chance for hubs managers from across Europe to gather in one space. The programme will bring together those who run, work with or are interested in supporting hubs, to hear about: funding & business models; case studies; access to public & private funding; peer-learning and networking opportunities; while also being part of constructing a future manifesto of support for hubs across Europe.
Lynsey Smith, our Creative Economy Programme Manager who is leading this project together with colleagues in Portugal and Spain explains:
My experience of running hubs such as Creative Edinburgh and Creative Entrepreneurs Club at The Lighthouse, has equipped me with the motivation to support others in a similar position. Looking after a community of people virtually or physically can be incredibly hard, particularly when there's only one or two of you leading the way. If this forum had existed while I stood in these previous roles, it would have enabled me to connect with like-minded people, exchange experiences and open up the possible channels of collaboration across Europe. This is exactly what we will offer hub managers attending our European Creative Hubs Forum.
We will cover the travel, hotel and ticket costs of 10 UK hub managers to attend our European Creative Hubs Forum in Lisbon. Along with our UK Hubs Steering Group, you will be invaluable in communicating back the key outcomes to the sector via your networks.
If you are interested in going to Lisbon, quite simply tell us (in no more than 100 words) why attending this forum would be beneficial to you and your hub community, along with 2 ideas on how you would communicate the outcomes of the forum back to the UK via social media. Email this, along with a link to your website to firstname.lastname@example.org Deadline is 5pm on Monday 15th December.
All entries will be judged by our UK Hubs Steering Group, who will decide the 10 hubs that will travel to Lisbon in January, becoming part of the UK representation of the forum. The 10 Hubs will be notified by Wednesday 17th December.
*travel, hotel (3xnights) and ticket to the European Creative Hubs Forum will be covered by the British Council, but not any additional subsistence costs.
