Realidades Alternativas/Alternate Realities in Latin America

A partnership with Sheffield Doc Fest to take established and emerging practitioners in VR, AR and Interactive Media to new markets in Latin America

We are partnering with Sheffield Doc/Fest to tour a selection of work from Alternate Realities, Sheffield Doc/Fest’s programme of virtual reality experiences and interactive documentaries, to Latin America in 2017.

Nine interactive and immersive documentary projects from Doc/Fest 2017 have been selected for exhibition at Docs Montevideo, Uruguay, Docs SP, Brazil, and Noviembre Electrónico, Argentina. The British Council-supported tour is central to Doc/Fest’s strategy of connecting audiences from across the globe to showcase factual storytelling through new technologies.  A number of the projects will be translated into Spanish and Portuguese, especially for the tour, and a series of events and workshops are under development to offer capacity building and professional development to Latin American artists.

The nine projects selected for the tour from the Alternate Realities Exhibition, are currently being showcased as part of Sheffield Doc/Fest, 9-14 June 2017, and include:

Greenpeace’s Munduruku: The Fight to Defend the Heart of the Amazon (Grace Boyle, James Manisty / UK, Brazil / 2017)

Jane Gauntlett's In My Shoes: Intimacy (UK / 2017)

Mike Orwell’s interactive Graphic novel Tell Me Your Secrets (UK / 2017)

Alex Pearson's collaboration with renowned creative collective Marshmallow Laser Feast Future Aleppo VR experience (UK, Turkey / 2017).
